Damn there are so many interesting unreleased scenes in the series

In this scene Morgana, who is lying on the brink of death following her encounter with Merlin/Emrys, sees Morgause in the Spirit world and is given a magical coin to revive her. Morgana also will use this coin in the episode Lancelot du Lac to summon Lancelot's spirit.

It certainly raises some questions as to what those people are and what Morgause’s life after death is like and how different it is to the concept of Avalon. Is Uther also now in that dark place? Also it gives a neat link to how Morgana got the coin and how Emrys literally bested her so bad she went to purgatory and get a physical object from her sister to bring back. Merlin wasn't playing around anymore!

This is one of the deleted scenes I always wanted to see so badly, it’s so clear they filmed it without all the special effects at least.

that one deleted scene where merlin compliments percival and arthur takes him down, then merlin compliments gwaine and arthur takes him down, the merlin insinuates they’re letting him win so arthur challenges elyan and wins. merlin laughs after arthur stomps away and then lancelot comes over to chide him and complain and merlin laughs and says that arthur is just so predictable. out of the corner of his eye he can see the king returning so he flutters his eyelashes and places his hands on lancelot’s arms to squeeze his muscles and goes “and you’re all big, strong men. i’m sure you can take it” lancelot stares, confused, but can’t say anything before arthur plows right through them and grabs a weapon before dragging lancelot onto the field with him. lancelot turns to look over his shoulder with a betrayed look and merlin just waves back with a grin. arthur wins. leon sighs tiredly from beside merlin, scaring him bc he didn’t see the knight make his way over to him. leon doesn’t say anything but just gives merlin his Disappointed Mom stare and merlin mutters an apology

so I read someone talking about a merlin deleted scene where merlin compliments the knights and arthur gets pissy and goes fight them to prove that he is better, and I thought it was an exaggeration but it ISNT AT ALL

scene includes:

Arthur says that Percival is strong but not agile, he isn’t the whole package. Merlin agrees and says that GWAINE is the whole package

Arthur goes off to fight Gwaine, who takes his shirt and gives it to Percival??? akjdjda

Arthur then goes fight Elyan, wins, and goes brag to merlin saying, and I quote, “Elyan has got concentration, strength, the whole package, and still I win! What do you have to say about that?” while being dangerously close to him

They had to take it out because it’s the gayest scene I’ve ever watched in my whole fucking life they wouldn’t be able to beat the merthur allegations after it

okay!!!! you can revive one singular deleted scene from merlin, JUST ONE! which one is it

Ooooooooo good one, good one!

So, I think most people would be inclined to say the scene where Arthur gives Merlin his mother’s sigil and that is VERY tempting.

However, there’s a scene that’s stuck out to me ever since I saw it. In 04x07, when Gaius has been kidnapped after Aggravaine has made it look like he ran and betrayed Arthur, there’s a deleted scene of Arthur searching frantically for Merlin. The placement of this scene comes after Merlin and Arthur had some verbal sparring because Merlin was incredibly hurt that Arthur didn’t believe Gaius. Merlin leaves to go find Gaius.

And in this scene you have Arthur fucking panicking. Like, full-blown panicking. He’s screaming Merlin’s name. He’s trying to play it off to others as anger that he simply can’t find his servant, but it’s extremely evident that he’s terrified Merlin has left him because of what happened. It’s the kind of shit I read in fics.

I EAT IT UP. Frankly, I needed more of the show showing Arthur going crazy with worry and desperation over not being able to find Merlin. It feeds my soul.

i will forever believe that s4 is Merthur’s Season bc oh my god the angst… the yearning… the everything😭😭😭 it was just so good

ep7 is one of my favorites because of the angst between merlin and arthur— like the scene agravaine exposes gaius for being a sorcerer and running away, and you can literally see merlin staring angrily in the background

most of the anger is at agravaine because he knows he had something to do with gaius’ disappearance, but also at arthur because he simply can’t believe that he would actually see gaius as a traitor

he even says it; “he’s given his life to the kingdom. he would never betray you.”

and the way he says it— solemn and reserved but so terribly heartbroken

but then you look at arthur, who clearly feels the same way but is dealing with what he feels is right in his heart versus what is expected of him as king

UGH i literally can’t the scene actually hurts so bad??? merlin’s evident heartbreak, arthur’s denial; it’s all too much 😭 you can feel the tension between them in the scene

and then following that merlin is literally waiting for arthur to come to him so they can try to find gaius. WHEN HES SITTING IN GAIUS’ ROOM AND THINKS ARTHUR IS THE ONE WHO KNOCKED ON THE DOOR. LIKE!!! THE HEARTBREAK!!! THE ACHING!!!

s4 ep7 is actually one of the best episodes in the show mainly because of how merlin and arthur conflict. it literally feels like they’re on the brink of their friendship ending or, as i like to call, their “divorce era.” obvs i wish they’d actual gone more into that at the end of the episode and have arthur and merlin just. Communicate. but we cant all get what we want ig😔

do you ever think about how gwaine is canonically given the fandom favorite romance tropes that people typically write for merlin and arthur in fics? gwaine being the only person who goes out of his way to consistently check up on merlin emotionally? protecting merlin from bullying nobles? recognizing and verbally acknowledging merlin's selflessness? worrying openly about his well-being and visibly showing joy when he's okay? the physical touches, the sleeping in merlin's bed! like. for fuck's sake

It does indeed baffle my mind that scenes like these get cut while others stay in that add nothing and contradict other things. As a writer myself, I can’t wrap my head around how they come to that decision.

Why do the writers always delete the scenes with character development and great dynamics?

Merlin and Gwaine discussing about Gaius and Gwaine’s father? Not important! Gwaine is only a comic relief now.

Merlin and Arthur discussing about Morgana? Who cares! Arthur and Morgana are not brother and sister after all. They didn’t grow up together. Arthur doesn’t care about that evil witch. He never cared.

Mordred expressing hesitation to Morgana about joining her too soon before giving Arthur a second chance? Nah. Mordred is super evil now. End of story.

Arthur gave Merlin Ygraine’s sigil AND shows how much Arthur still thinks about his mother and cares for Merlin? How Arthur accepting him in his family? Fuck this scene. Arthur is a prince and Merlin just a stupid servant! We can’t elevate this stupid servant.

Merlin doesn’t intend to join everyone seated at the round table, but Arthur calls him over to sit at his side? Delete this shit! Arthur and Merlin are not equal. They are not two sides of the same coin.

god im just thinking abt how. merlin is always saying that before he came to camelot he thought he was cursed and he hated his magic because he thought it made him a monster but it was also all he had. and then him telling lancelot in s4 that since he found the purpose of his magic (protecting arthur) he doesn't feel that way anymore. sigh. the way out is just another cage!!!

stumbled across that deleted scene of merlin complimenting the knights and forcing arthur into jealous sparring to impress merlin and i just. god. they are so gay. that scene was straight out of a fanfic. since we treat the sigil scene as canon despite it being deleted, i move to motion that we address that scene as canon as well. all in favor, read this post. oh look at that, its unanimous.
